Whistleblower Protection Unit (WBPU) is an independent unit within Human Rights Commission of the Maldives under the Whistleblower Protection Act (Law No. 16/2019). The Unit works to provide a safe and confidential mechanism for reporting wrongdoing and to protect whistleblowers from retaliation.

Mandate

WBPU is mandated to receive and investigate whistleblower complaints, ensure the confidentiality and protection of the whistleblowers, and take necessary measures against retaliation. The Unit also works closely with relevant institutions to promote awareness of whistleblowing, strengthen whistleblower protection in the Maldives and foster a society built on integrity and accountability.

Lodging complaints:

Complaints can be directed to the Unit anonymously in accordance with the Whistleblower Protection Act of the Maldives. If you need additional information about your complaint or want the Unit to contact you for additional information, please provide your name, email address, and phone number.

When you lodge a complaint, disclose all information you have regarding the case including information on the individuals who engaged in an act of improper conduct specified in Article 3 of the Whistleblower Protection Act, information on the individuals who may have been aware of the improper conduct, and the date and time period of the improper conduct.
