Biographical Note:
Ahmed Magsoom, currently serving as a Commissioner of the Human Rights
Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), is a Maldivian national with extensive
experience in human rights investigations, public service, diplomacy, and
institutional governance. He has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the
protection and promotion of human rights through investigative, administrative,
and leadership roles within national institutions.
Ahmed
Magsoom began his public service career in the agriculture sector before
transitioning into human rights work, where he has built over a decade of
experience at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives. He has served the
Commission in various capacities, including Assistant Investigation Officer,
Investigation Officer, Senior Investigation Officer, Assistant Director, and
Director of Investigations, prior to his appointment as Commissioner.
Throughout these roles, he has led complex investigations, provided legal and
procedural guidance to staff, and contributed to strengthening institutional
systems and practices.
In
addition to his work at HRCM, he has represented the Maldives internationally
as Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Colombo, Sri
Lanka, where he headed the Protocol Section and handled matters related to VIP
coordination and diplomatic engagement. His earlier professional experience
also includes roles in aviation services, private sector coordination, and
agricultural program management within government.
Mr.
Magsoom holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Napier
University, United Kingdom, and has completed multiple professional trainings
in human rights investigations, criminal justice data analysis, forensic
interviewing, and international classification of crime standards. He has
participated in regional and international training programs organized by
institutions such as UNODC, APF, and the United Nations system.
With
a strong background in investigations, institutional leadership, and public
administration, he brings a practical, research-informed, and principled
approach to his role. As a Commissioner of HRCM, he is committed to ensuring
accountability, strengthening investigative mechanisms, and advancing the
protection and promotion of human rights in the Maldives.
