Civil and political rights

Civil and political rights are a class of rights that protect individuals’ freedoms and rights that ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the society and state without discrimination or repression.

Children

Children are those who, from conception in the mother's womb until birth and up to 18 years of age. Children, like adults, have human rights.

Disability

According to the “Act of providing financial assistance and protection for persons with disability”, a person with disabilities is considered to be, anyone with a long-term physical, mental or depressive condition will be among those with disabilities who are unable to participate fully in the rest of the community.

Whistleblowing

The Whistleblower Protection Unit was instituted by Maldives statute 16/2019 (Whistleblower Protection Act). This is an independent unit within the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.

What are human rights?

Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings. These universal rights are inherent to us all, regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status.
