From May 12–15, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) carried out a series of awareness programs across islands in Ha. and HDh. atolls. The activities aimed to promote human rights, strengthen public understanding of the Whistleblower Protection Act, and encourage collective responsibility in holding the state accountable.
Sessions were held for government staff, employees of state-owned companies, civil society organizations, and island communities. A total of 1,023 individuals participated in the programs.
In HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, the events were organized in collaboration with the Kulhudhuffushi Women’s Development Committee. Additional sessions were conducted in HDh. Dhidhdhoo, Hanimaadhoo, Finey, and Nolhivaranfaru, with the Whistleblower Protection Unit joining to deliver targeted awareness activities. At HDh. Hanimaadhoo School, a dedicated session on human rights was held for students.
As part of the trip, HRCM also visited Ha. Dhidhdhoo, where two sessions on children’s rights were conducted for students of Ha. Atoll Education Centre, following the school’s request.
Through these programs, HRCM continues its efforts to foster a rights-conscious society that actively promotes accountability, human rights, and protection for whistleblowers.
