The Whistleblower Protection Unit (WPU), in collaboration with the local councils of AA. Ukulhas and AA. Mathiveri, conducted awareness sessions on the Whistleblower Protection Act in both islands from 31 August to 3 September 2026.
These sessions were targeted at employees of government institutions and state-owned enterprises to raise awareness about the Whistleblower Protection Act, inform them about the rights and protections afforded to whistleblowers, and familiarize them with the mechanisms for reporting wrongdoing. Participating institutions included the Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of AA. Ukulhas and AA. Mathiveri, as well as the Magistrate Court, Health Centre, School, Police, STELCO, and AA. Mathiveri Pre-school.
During this visit, the Whistleblower Protection Unit also held an open session for the general public, sharing information regarding the protections provided to whistleblowers and the importance of reporting illicit and improper conduct.
The purpose of these sessions is to enhance awareness regarding the rights and protections of whistleblowers, while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and the reporting of wrongdoing within institutions and throughout the broader community.
