Initiated by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), in collaboration with the Haddhunmathi Gan Council and the Gan Women’s Development Committee (WDC), a colorful family evening was held at the L. Gan Zone Stadium. Held this afternoon from 16:00 to 18:00, the event proved to be a resounding success, drawing a large number of families.
The family evening was organized to mark the conclusion of a week-long major awareness tour conducted by the HRCM across all 11 inhabited islands of Laamu Atoll. During this tour, three teams from the Commission visited L. Maabaidhoo, Dhanbidhoo, Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo, Maamendhoo, Hithadhoo, Kunahandhoo, Maavah, Mundoo, Gan, and Fonadhoo. They conducted specialized awareness sessions for state institutions and members of the public focusing on human rights and the Whistleblower Protection Act.
Institutions and state-owned enterprises such as the Maldives Police Service, Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Gan Regional Hospital, Road Development Corporation (RDC), and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) participated in and extended their full cooperation to the family evening.
The primary objective of the event was to raise public awareness about human rights, foster community solidarity and connection, and provide a fun, joyful environment for families.
