The Whistleblower Protection Unit (WBPU) has launched a video competition to mark World Whistleblower Day, aiming to raise public awareness of the importance of speaking up against wrongdoing and corruption.
Held under the theme “Breaking the Silence: Why Speaking Up Matters,” the competition is open to individuals and groups. Participants are invited to submit short videos of 40 to 60 seconds in landscape format, with clear audio and visuals. Entries may be in Dhivehi or English, while videos in other languages must include English subtitles.
The competition seeks to promote accountability, transparency and whistleblower protection, while highlighting the role individuals can play in preventing corruption, abuse of power and other forms of misconduct. Suggested topics include safe reporting of wrongdoing, protection against retaliation, integrity, accountability, and advocating for transparency and justice.
Participants must submit their completed videos and submission forms by 10 June 2026. Videos must be uploaded to Google Drive and shared with [email protected], using the subject line “World Whistleblower Day Short Video Competition 2026.” Participation is free of charge.
Submissions will be assessed in two stages. A panel of judges will evaluate entries based on relevance to the theme, effectiveness of the message, creativity and production quality. The top 10 videos will then be shortlisted for public voting through the WBPU and HRCM social media platforms, beginning 14 June 2026. Voting will close at 10:00 AM on 22 June 2026.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries, with MVR 5,000 for first place, MVR 3,000 for second place and MVR 1,500 for third place.
The winners will be announced at the World Whistleblower Day ceremony scheduled for 23 June 2026, where selected videos will also be screened. Winning videos, with credit given to their creators, may be used by the WBPU in future public awareness campaigns.
