The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives notes that the second round of the Presidential Elections, held on the 16thof November 2013 was concluded amidst an atmosphere of peace and calm, and that the right to vote freely was fully ensured.

25 ballot boxes in Male’ and in the atolls were observed by the HRCM in this round of elections, to ensure that the people were able to exercise their right to vote in an environment free from undue influence, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the national laws and regulations pertaining to elections, and in accordance with International Conventions.

With the assistance of relevant institutions, most of the complaints lodged have been addressed, and these and relevant observations are publicized on the HRCM’s website.

A report embodying the observations, findings and recommendations of the HRCM will be directed to the Elections Commission of the Maldives.
