HRCM visits Dhoonidhoo Custodial

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has visited Dhoonidhoo Custodial on 21 February 2018. The purpose of this visit was to assess the conditions of the detainees and the custodial and to evaluate the standard/level of services being provided at the Custodial. This visit was also a part of an ongoing investigation at the Commission.

The Commission has previously visited the Dhoonidhoo Custodial and Maafushi Prison on 14 February 2018. Following this visit, the Commission met with Maldives Police Service on 18 February, and also met with the Minister of Home Affairs and Commissioner of Prisons on 19 February to discuss the observations made by the Commission during the visit. In these meetings, the Commission discussed alternative solutions to issues identified during these visits.
