The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives calls upon to the Supreme Court and all the State institutions to make every effort to ensure that the Maldivian people are given the right to cast their vote as ensured in the article 26 of the Constitution of the Maldives, the article 25 of the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights and the article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to do so within the period stated in the Constitution.

The Commission appeals to the State to refrain from paving way to create an environment that will disrupt the peace and harmony of the nation. In this regard, the Commission calls on the State to expedite all and every effort to uphold the Constitution. The Commission also calls upon the Election Commission to ensure the proper reformation of any and all problems that might exist in the voter registry for future elections.

The Commission appeals to the public to refrain from activities and speech that would incite fear and hatred in the community and to end all forms of violence including death threats to individual citizens. The Commission further call upon the authorities to take necessary actions against the persons calling for or are involved in such actions. The Commission appeals to everyone to work peacefully in a united bid to uphold national peace and harmony and to ensure faith and confidence in the newly established democratic system in the Maldives.
