HR Club established in Laamu Atoll

A team from HRCM was in Laamu atoll Gan, Ihadhoo and Fonadhoo on the 19th and 20th of this month, assisting in the establishment of Human Rights Club. From these 3 schools a total of 30 teachers and 30 students joined the special session which conducted by the HRCM team. Some of the areas which were covered in these sessions were;

  • Introduction to Human Rights
  • Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)
  • Upholding Human rights
  • Whole school approach to Human Rights

Human Rights Clubs were introduced in schools across the Maldives in 2012 with the purpose of creating human rights defenders among the youth. The activities of the club are centered on introducing and encouraging values of freedom, respect for human rights and tolerance.

In addition to Laamu atoll, the HRCM will be assisting in the initiation of the Club in Lhaviyani atoll and Meemu atoll this year.
